April 4, 2005, 6:30pm: Day One

GOAL:  30:00 of non-stop running
LOCATION:  Francis Park, St. Louis
CONDITIONS: 65°, sunny and windy
RESULTS: 30:30 non-stop running
PACE: 11:01/mile

The Beginning
Today, I knew it would be the start of training.  Everything is going great today. In fact, I received my first compliment about my weight loss today from John Pertzborn, a fellow marathon runner! How cool is that! He was excited to hear that I'm training for a marathon.  He told me he uses Hal Higdon's methods for his training. I told him I was going through Joints in Motion, and I had just purchased "The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer" guide over the weekend. John said he's preparing for the Boston Marathon, and then he'll slow down for a while.

My New MP3 Player!
Later in the day, the sun was bright and temps were warm. I received a package in the mail, and it was my new MuVo MP3 player (I got the lime green one) that I bought for this project. I went home and loaded up the player with my fav running songs. The spring forward time change occurred yesterday, so now there's an extra hour of daylight after work. I registered the domain name project262.com, and it is now working.

The Run
I got to the park and did some stretching, then after a 3-minute walk, I hit the running, which is a little over 2 times around Francis Park. After the first mile, I was feeling pretty good. Getting halfway through the second mile, I was getting some pains on my right side, but I just kept the same pace and tolerated it. I walked off the run for about a mile afterwards. Very happy with results.

THOUGHTS: Weight stands at 230 pounds.
Make sure to go to bathroom before beginning.
