Getting Better at Resting
Well, last night was the first night I was actually sleeping before midnight.  I hit the sack at 11:30pm, and waking up this morning was easy!  Even though it was only a 7-hour sleep, I had a great run. I need 8 hours I know...but I'm getting better at this morning thing.

My Mind is Now Starting to Drift...
This morning as I was making my rounds, I was just thinking to myself how great it is to not worry about people looking at me weird for running. I'm glad I'm losing weight and doing this project. Only heavy people know that feeling when someone looks at you while you're trying to improve yourself. Sometimes you just think, "They're gonna yell something when they drive by, I just know it" and you start thinking about how you're going to handle it when they do say it..."Will I look at them?" "Will I just ignore them?" "Are they just a bunch of punks and who cares about them?" It's a big mind game that shouldn't have to exist, but it does exist because of the way society is these days. So, by losing weight, I'm building confidence to not really care what other people think.  I feel good about myself and that's all that matters, right? I'm the one carrying this body with me wherever I go.  Do they know I haven't eaten a bite of fast food all year?  Do they know I've eliminated regular soda completely? Hell no! What have they done for themselves lately?

So, I guess the run is getting better on my body, because I'm starting to think of things other than the physical aspects of running. Of course, my club music is blaring in my headphones, so that's cool, too. I'm never bored when I run.

The Run
The cold weather tried to mess with me this morning, but HAH! I was not afraid. It was chilly, and I was prepared. I could see my breath the entire time, and it was fine with me. When my back side was facing the sun, I could feel the rays warm me up so quickly.  That was a good feeling. I kept my pullover on the whole time. I didn't want to stop to take it off, and my headphone clip was attached to it, and it would've been a mess trying to get that thing off without stopping. I made great time today, and I could feel it after the first mile. I never look at my watch during the run because that would drive me crazy, but I was pacing myself with other regular runners going the opposite direction, and it looked like I was going faster than them. So, either I was faster or they were having a bad day. That's the mystery of it, I suppose. It wasn't until the end when I knew I was hitting the concrete at a faster pace.

Even More Encouragement
Wow! Talk about encouragement! I walked into the office this morning, and talked with FOX Sports Marketing Director David Pokorny, who placed 9th overall in the St. Louis Marathon! He heard from others that I was running a marathon in Alaska (word is getting around the office). He looked pretty excited to hear about it. He's now planning on doing the Pike's Peak Marathon, which is the same day as the Alaska Marathon. He said he was committing to running for 4 years (the length of being in high school, as he compares it). Now, this is his 5th year. He has also ran the Boston Marathon a couple years back. He looks pretty proud to be a runner.

My buddy Sean White was telling me about the Escape from Alcatraz Triathon, and how there are so many incredible stories that come out of that event.  The event includes a 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz to the San Francisco shore, an 18-mile bike ride, and an 8-mile run...all back-to-back. He was telling me about a man who finished it every decade of his life, up until he was 80. And there was another story of a guy who crashed his bike so bad he couldn't ride it, so he picked it up and ran to the end, then ran the 8 miles. There are so many cool stories about running.  I'm glad to be a part of the experience.

THOUGHTS: Good night's rest is essential! Get another hour of sleep and I'll be running at my best each training day.  Now, I gotta lay off the snacks at work...not healthy.
