The Heat is Back...but I didn't really notice...
My muscles today were sore. They felt the same way they feel after a workout, when you haven't worked out in months. I would get the occassional ow when walking down steps. But, I didn't care. The pain didn't hurt as much, knowing I just completed 21 miles. And the weather was back to typical St. Louis heat, and that didn't bother me either. I walked to the park from work and hit the trail without a problem.
The Run
The last time I ran three miles was back on May 30th. I was recovering, and today's run was just to loosen my muscles up. By the time I was figuring out how my body was reacting to running again, it was over. I remember earlier in the year when 2 miles was nearly impossible. Today's 3-miler was super easy and without effort. The days are now winding down. No more increases in mileage during the week. No more half-marathon runs (or longer) on the weekends. This is recovery time.
RETIRED!
I was going to retire my first pair of shoes after the 21-miler, but I didn't get a chance to get a new pair at Fleet Feet in Chesterfield, so I tied the shoes back on and plan on getting my new pair during lunch tomorrow. So, these shoes will end their days with 463 miles of training on them. I'm sure I'll be buying the exact same shoes, and break in about 42 miles before the marathon.
| THOUGHTS: |
Take it easy. The hard part is over. It feels like a waiting game now. I'm still disappointed that I didn't drop a lot of weight, but I did gain a lot of muscle mass. |
WHAT I'LL
