I Slept In...until 6:00am.
Since the weather was cooler, and since it was "only" 12 miles, I guess most the runners would arrive at 7:00am instead of the usual 6:00am we've been used to. So I slept in, if you call waking up at 6:00am sleeping in, and got ready. I didn't have anything to eat that was my usual this morning, so I just went without and drank a Gatorade before the run. I don't know if that's a bad thing or not.
The Run
When I arrived at Grant's Trail, everyone was already on the trail. They arrived at 6:00am. So, I dragged myself on the path to start running. I was really out of it, though. Some guy honked his horn at me when I was just standing next to the trail, because I was actually in the roadway. Whoops. That kinda woke me up. My legs were in such pain, and I didn't feel like running. The past three days of running have been so miserable. But, I hit it anyway. And the first 4 miles were very painful. It was like shin splints the whole time, as if I was running for the first time. I think the new shoes have a lot to do with it, because they felt so different than the worn out shoes. After Mile 4 had passed, my legs suddenly warmed up and the pain just went away. I didn't stop running the entire 12 miles. It was a great morning, and the weather was perfect, almost Alaska-like. I didn't even need to drink anything until Mile 7. Of course, that's when it started to heat up pretty quickly, which is normally the 8:00 hour. I was the last person to fininsh, since I started an hour later than everyone else, but since I'm one of the faster runners, I caught up and ended up only 10 minutes behind the runner ahead of me.
Hello Honolulu Marathoners!
I heard today was the first long run for the Joints in Motion Team for Honolulu. Their marathon is December 11th. Angie at the Arthritis Foundation show them my website, and they all seemed to be impressed by it. So, HI HONOLULU MARATHONERS! If you want a site like this one, just e-mail me for details! It takes a lot of time to keep up the site, but looking back at it now....it's so worth it! And sponsors love it!
| THOUGHTS: |
I'm glad I was able to work out my calf muscles after those 4 miles. I was starting to get nervous. |
WHAT I'LL
REMEMBER MOST: |
The leg pain for those first 4 miles...then the sudden disappearance of pain thereafter. |
