The Run
Even though the hot temps are back, and there are ozone alerts and high humidity levels, it didn't bother me at all. The 3-milers are just pointless to me now. Maybe it's a part of rebuilding the leg muscles, but I'm tellin' ya, once I get a good groove on the path, it's over. I am running than usual pace, even though I think I'm running slower. I'm trying not too push myself these final days because there's no need to. July 30th to August 20th is a recovery period.
Legs Still a Little Sore
I noticed after the run today that my calf muscles were still pretty sore, but not nearly as sore as last week. The pain has been consistent, so I scheduled a sports massage on Friday. It's a place I've never been to called Massage Envy. I was referred there by my colleague Corrina Collins, and they have a great membership package where the first massage is $39, then if you buy a $49 monthly membership, you get one massage free, then every massage after that is only $29. So, if I even plan on going more than twice a month, it's a good deal.
Willpower? Not Today
I couldn't help but snack today. Maybe I was so proud of not snacking yesterday that I needed to celebrate that? I dunno. I consumed 2,200 calories, which isn't too bad. Taking away 330 calories I burned from the 3-mile run puts me at under 2,000 calories consumed. 31% fat, 46% carbs, 18% protein.
Booking a Glacier Cruise for Alaska
I've been trying to find that one thing Lindsey and I can do in Alaska that we can't do anywhere else. I had purchased a book called "Alaska for Dummies" last month and have been fingering through it for ideas. Finally last night I went to Travel Alaska's website and it linked to Alaska Heritage Tours, which offers several glacier cruise packages. So, we're taking the "Wilderness Explorer Glacier Cruise" on Monday, August 22nd (day after the marathon) which travels through Prince William Sound. It's a 6-hour cruise! The website says, "Explore the untamed wilderness and calm waters of magnificent Prince William Sound. Visit a working fish hatchery. Cruise spectacular Esther Passage before exploring the numerous glaciers in Harriman Fjord and Barry Arm. Stop at majestic Surprise Glacier. Marine animals and birds flourish in these waters. Delicious baked halibut lunch included. Approximately 100 miles round trip." Here's the map of the cruise route. We plan on renting a car on Monday morning, then driving 60 miles south to the town of Whittier, where the tour begins. It's cheaper to rent a car and keep it for a couple days instead of taking a railroad or bus. On the drive down, we will pass through a tunnel that cuts through 2.5 miles of mountain. We have to get there at certain times because it's only a one-way tunnel that opens every 15 minutes. We're so excited!
