August 11, 2005: No Run Today--Swelling in the Face
Happy Birthday to Lindsey!
Medical Trouble!
After I got to work, I started snacking on some pretzels when I noticed it was painful to eat. My jaws would tingle and this weird pressure would build up along my jaw bone. Then my mouth would dry up and I couldn't swallow my pretzels naturally. I would have to wipe my finger along my teeth to push down the pretzels in order to swallow. I felt my cheeks swell with each bite. I got to the point where I couldn't eat anymore because of the pain. My face remained swollen most the morning. When it was time for lunch, I was so hungry, I ate a small hamburger, despite the pain. It just got worse and worse, until my both cheeks were swollen pretty bad. I walked into the promotions office and asked if my cheeks looked swollen and the response from everyone in the office was 'Holy Shit!" What happened?! One of them even said it looked like I'd gained 500 pounds in my face, and I looked like Professor Klump! So, now I was quite worried. Maybe it was an allergic reaction to something, but my diet has been pretty consistent. I had an Atkins Advantage bar this morning like I always have. I DID change mouthwashes earlier this week, so maybe that triggered it.
Thinking it was an allergic reaction, I went home and took some old Allegra I had, then waited for about 20 minutes to see if it was working. I went back into the office and finished out my work, then went straight home. I wasn't about to run with my face swollen. The temps reached 100° today, but that would not have mattered, since it was only to be a 3-miler.
I scheduled a doctor appointment for 9:30am Friday morning just incase the swelling didn't go down. I'll keep you posted on my medical condition. I'm so thankful this didn't happen NEXT week...the day before the flight to Alaska!
