Rain Feels Good
The weather was perfect for a run today. It started as a drizzle, but turned into a steady ran in under 30 minutes. The temps were much cooler than usual, and I would say this is as close to Alaskan weather I'll see...until this weekend!

The Infection
I think the Sialadenitis infection is going away with each passing day, but I still have this fear of cottonmouth during the run. I have been taking my medication religiously, so I can hopefully get off of it before Saturday.  I'm still dealing with the "side effects", but that's getting better, too. I didn't notice any cottonmouth while I was running my 3-miler.  I'm sure cooler temps and a shorter run helped. Last Saturday I got cottonmouth after Mile 4, but I didn't run that far today.

The Run
I'm feeling like I'm slowly getting out of shape. I'm sure that's because I'm not running 30-35 miles a week like I've been training my body to do for weeks. I feel weaker, and my legs and ankles took about 2.5 miles before they really warmed up.  After I finished the three miles, I walked for another mile, just to cool down and stretch the legs. They loosened up during that walk completely, and I didn't have any pain by the time I got back to my SUV.

Eating to Prepare
I'll continue to watch what I eat and maintain a good amount of carbs and fluids. I received an e-mail from Coach Rich, and he mention these as great snack ideas for this week:
Flavored Yogurt
Pretzels, crackers
Fig bars, low fat cookies
Frozen Yogurt
Dry Cereal
Leftover pasta
Canned and fresh fruits and juices, applesauce.

One More Alaskan Thing to Do...
Since we have combined this marathon as a vacation as well, Lindsey and I are taking a trip up to Talkeetna, Alaska (120 miles north of Anchorage), where we will board a twin engine plane and fly OVER North America's highest mountain, 20,320-foot tall Mount McKinley. The 80-minute flight also includes a south side glacier tour with fantastic vistas of Little Switzerland and the "Climber's High Camp" at 14,000 feet. We'll fly over Kahiltna Pass and circle to the north side of the Alaska Range. We'll see the Wickersham Wall, Pioneer Ridge, and the Kantishna mining area. We may also see climbers on their way to the summit. After the flight, we'll still have plenty of time to get back to Anchorage to check out, return the car rental and get on our flight home. More at Talkeetna Aero's website. This will be a sight we will remember for years to come. I just know it!

THOUGHTS: I wanted to break the 10:00/pace and did it.  I know I have it in me to be strong. This is the last week of training, and I deserve some rest and relaxation.
WHAT I'LL
REMEMBER MOST:
The Alaska-like weather.
