Over 400 Miles:
I passed the 400 training mile mark this evening. I guess that means a new pair of shoes are in order. Eric at Fleet Feet told me when I bought my shoes that I should get another pair after aboug 400 miles, because of all the wear and tear. I can't believe the time to buy new shoes is here already! That means the marathon is a month away! I'm planning on buying new shoes after the 21-miler in a couple weeks. That will give me about 3 weeks to break them in before the marathon.
The Run
It was nice and muggy tonight. Your typical St. Louis summer evening. I was sweating before I started running. The run was nice and easy. I expected to feel stiff, especially after that 19 miles on Saturday. The first half-mile was a little rough, but I loosened up quite a bit after that, and didn't have any problems. I ran a better than average pace, and I'm pleased with at how well my endurance is! It's all paying off now!
Runner at the office has to give up marathon running
I was talking with one of our producers, Laura Moyer, has been in a couple marathons and a couple half-marathons already. She was wanting to run 10 marathons before she turned 40. She's 27 now. She was training for a marathon a couple months ago and she ruptured a disc on her back. She was out from work for weeks, and had surgery. Now, she's feeling better than ever, and she's starting to run again. Her doctor told her another marathon was out of the question. He said the pounding is just too much for multi-marathoners, and he sees patients come in all the time all beat up from running marathons over and over. She can still run a half-marathon, though. Right now, she's running 2 miles and walking 2 miles to start.
She was excited to hear about my first marathon. She said it's the best feeling in the world to finish a marathon. The best tip she gave me was to make sure I put my name on my shirt so people on the sidelines can see it and yell out my name as I pass them. It's very uplifting to know so many people support you during the run.
| THOUGHTS: |
My endurance is so strong right now. I just hope I can avoid injury from here on out. I will try my best to give myself time to rest and recover. |
