A Little Toasty:
This was Day 1 of what is predicted to be a 3 or 4 day heat wave, where temps are in the high 90s with heat indeces in the upper 100s to 110s. I had no way around running today. I slept in this morning, so I had to pay for it by running after work. And I had to be somewhere at 7:00, so I got into work a little early, so I could leave early enough to run. Today was awful. I didn't have my water bottles, either. Any kind of breeze that was blowing felt like standing in front of a heater. I ran 3.5 miles before I finally got a drink of water from a foundation in Forest Park. After that, I felt better...better enough to finish the run. The heat really slowed me down, and I certainly did not want to push myself or get a heart attack out there. I drank tons of water after the run and into the evening just to make up for the water I lost in sweating during the run. I don't know how I'm going to run tomorrow. I'm hoping to get up early. Temps in the morning have been around 80° but the humidity is still high. I don't think the temps will be any cooler for the long run on Saturday, either.
| THOUGHTS: |
The only way to run in this heat is in the morning. Trying to run after the sun bakes the Earth all day is just plain dangerous. |
WHAT I'LL
REMEMBER MOST: |
The air feeling like a heater blowing right in my face. |
