Cooler Air is Still Here!
I was so excited about the cooler weather yesterday, that I toned it down today, and didn't care much about time. I just wanted to run freely. It was about 5° warmer than yesterday.
My First Injury?
I was fininishing up the final 30 seconds or so of my run today, when I think I injured my left inner thigh. I was running past the ballfields at Forest Park. Just as I was passing the baseball teams had just finished, and the crowd was crossing the path to go to their cars. But, some of the people stood on the path chatting away, so I had to go around them. Well, the one time I did, I went off to the left into the grass, and I didn't think the dropoff was as far as it was. So, when my left foot landed, it was more like a thud. I didn't notice it that much at the time, since I was just completing the 5 miles, but when I got home and sat down for a while, I was getting some pains everytime I would get up or move my leg. We'll see how it is tomorrow n my rest day. I hope I didn't injure myself right before the big 21-miler.
Already Preparing for Saturday's Run
I ate a big pasta meal and have been drinking lots of water today. And I plan on having a big pasta dinner and drinking fluids all day tomorrow, too. I carry around one of those big gas station 52-oz mugs at work. It looks HUGE! And the best thing is that it keeps ice cool for about 10 hours! I'm not nervous about Saturday yet...I have to think to myself, "It's just like the 18-miler a couple weeks ago...just add 3 more." But my coworker Greg Schrick, who finished in the Top 10 in the St. Louis Marathon, said that between 18 and 22 is when the body does weird things and some people hit "the wall" at that stage in the run. I'm not too worried, though. The Arthritis Foundation has volunteers at water stations along the run if I have any trouble. It's getting up at 4:00am that will be the hardest part of the run. I remember when getting up at 7:00am was tough! Now 4:00am? WOW! I also added some new music to my MP3 player, since I was going to be running for 4 hours!
| THOUGHTS: |
I hope I didn't injure myself today. You wouldn't think just running off the path a couple steps would do it, but I feel it now. |
WHAT I'LL
REMEMBER MOST: |
The pain from the injury (but it's not that bad). |
