I Only Saw 10 People in the Whole Park!
I got out of my SUV and hit the trail, only seeing about 10 people in the whole park!  Hmmm, I wondered. I supposed it wasn't the POURING RAIN and LIGHTNING that drove them away, you think? FINALLY, I was able to run in the rain. I was so excited. Just when people were bolting out of the park, I was dyin' to get in and get going!

The Run
It poured down HARD from the moment I started and long after I finished. At times, the rain was so hard, it felt like little thumbtacks poking my skin. Instantly I gained about 10 pounds of water weight, which slowed me down. The thunderstorm rolled in about 5:30, and it stayed around for a couple hours, cooling the city down from 90° to a cool 69°. I was hitting the puddles like a little kid, and there were times I had taken in so much water through my nose, it felt like you would feel when you sucked in a bunch of water through your nose at the pool. The 10 people I did see managed to wave at me and I waved back...like we were thinking, "What the hell are we doing out here?" The lightning was getting intense a few times, and I probably should have waited until late this evening to run, but I was jacked up on the rain. I got back to my SUV soaking wet, and I didn't have towels at all.

Need to Get More Sleep...Again
I went through this in the beginning of the training, and now I'm starting to feel like I'm not giving myself enough sleep, especially knowing I have a 14-miler in a couple days. So, I'm going to attempt the "Go To Bed Alarm" again in hopes I can at least be in bed, ready for 8 hours. I need that recovery time real bad.  My body is wanting it, I just know it. Lately though, I've been reading Runner's World, since I just signed up for a 2-year subscription. I'm getting a lot of good information from it. You wouldn't think running would constitute a monthly magazine, but it packed with great info.

Compliment about Weight Loss
Fellow Marathoner John Pertzborn from FOX 2 News in the Morning passed by my cube today and said he notices a difference in my weight loss. He said it was especially noticeable around my chin and neck area.

THOUGHTS: I enjoyed the rain. Would I run in it again? Sure! It would've been a much better run if I'd quit tossing and turning and get a decent sleep.

Back

FOX 2 Doppler radar image at 6:00pm, just before my 4-mile run this evening.
Let's just say I got a little wet.
