Here Come the Storms...again
Will this be a repeat of last Thursday night's run? It was looking to be that way. The afternoon got so hot, that storms were just popping up all over the place, and there was a line of storms heading right through St. Louis. It wasn't raining at 6:00pm when I got off work and headed to the park. Maybe I could outrun it...
The Run
People were still playing baseball and volleyball at the park when I arrived. I guess the black clouds rolling in with the high winds and lightning didn't scare them off. They must've been waiting for the rain to come. I ran my 4 miles thinking it was going to rain at any minute. I looked to the right and left of me, and the lighting was bright and you could see the rain falling from the clouds. Yet, above me, it was just gray clouds with no rain, but the winds kicked in REALLY strong. I heard reports of 40mph winds when the storm was approaching. The course was a 4-mile out-and-back run. When i turned around at the end of Mile 2 to head back to the SUV, God gave me an incredible light show. In the distance toward the city, lightning was intense, and you could see the line of black clouds heading towards downtown. I guess the storms went around the park and met up again just a couple miles away. For about a mile, it was truly spectacular to watch. It didn't rain until about 3 minutes to the end of my run. I was drenched right when I got into my SUV. It was close!
| THOUGHTS: |
I'm glad I've been sticking to my training schedule, despite the rainy weather and hot humid conditions on other days. I think it's preparing me for anything on marathon day. So far, I've been blessed to not have missed a single day of training. My health has been phenomenal. |
