Early......
I got up around 5:00am this morning! HOLY CRAP! I am really sacrificing those Saturday morning sleep ins. I remember getting to sleep at 5:00am! Back in April when I committed to this, I was thrilled when Coach Rich said we'd start running at 8:00am instead of 7:00am, because at that time, I wanted to sleep in as much as I could. Now, I'm getting up and running at 6:30am to beat the heat! This is just freakin' weird!
The Run
I beat everyone this morning to the park. The tent wasn't even set up. It was just me. It was 6:30am. Should I wait until some of the Joints in Motion team members show up at 7:00am, or just go? Well, I just took off. I was halfway around the first of two laps around the park at 7:00, so it was nice to have a great head start. It was a cool 60° and I felt a little chilly. This whole week has been cooler than usual, with highs in the lower 80s. I didn't mind the cool weather though...after a couple miles I was breaking a good sweat and it felt nice. I didn't practice interval training like I have been during the week. I just wanted to run. I really didn't care about pace either. I felt in great shape, and nothing was hurting. It was the most relaxing run I've had to date. I saw some of the team when I was finishing the first lap, so I was buzzed about being almost a lap ahead of everyone else. I hollered at my coach when I hit the second lap, just so he knew I was there. After the run, one of the team members said I looked great on the track. He said I had great posture and a consistent pace. Also, I didn't drink near as much as hotter days. I only downed half a 16-oz bottle of Propel and one of my 8-oz water bottles. I finished the run with 3 bottles of unused water! But, when I finished the run, I was starting to feel the heat and drank quite a bit. And on top of that, I didn't stop at all during the run!
Understanding the Training Schedule
When I ran the 12-miler a few weeks ago, it was tough. But the next weekend when we backed down to just 9.5 miles, it was a breeze. Last week was a 14-miler, and it was tough, but this week was a breeze at 11 miles. I'm starting to see how the training is really paying off. Pretty soon I'll be saying the 13-miler will be a breeze once I finish 18 miles the week before. But in reality, I don't know if I'll be saying "running a half-marathon was a breeze!" We shall see.
This Website is Getting Eyeballs
I think more people are visiting the website lately. Suzanne from our team said she browsed the site and read some of the blogs. (Happy b-day Suzanne!) I was flattered. My servers crashed on the Project 262 site on Saturday (and all 15 other accounts on my server crashed, too), and I spent the day fixing that. Of course, when the site was down, my friend Michelle Dibble from Seattle was trying to donate online. AARGH! But it's fixed now, and I'm happy that people are logging on. Even my boss says she checks it once a week! Better watch what I say :) Hi Kathryn!
| THOUGHTS: |
I don't think I can handle putting my first step on the track at 6:30am, but I'll try. If the weather's gonna be hot, I'm more motivated to get up early and take a nap afterwards. |
