TOTAL TRAINING MILES TO DATE (walking & running): 277 miles

Hottest Training Day
This was the hottest training day so far.  I had to run 6 miles, which mean an entire lap around the park + an additional half mile. I wanted to practice more on doing down those steep hills, since I think I need to gain strength in my legs, so I ran the opposite direction that I normally go.

The Run
Lindsey was with me for motivation today, and she sat on one of the benches doing her homework while I ran around. Again, I practiced my 5-1 interval training (5 minutes FASTER than normal, followed by 1 minute of fast walking), and it was hard today because of the heat.  In fact, the water in the bottle I was carrying in my hand got so hot, it was making me sick and I threw out the bottle with about 25% of it still full.  I had two bottles around my waist to help me anyway. I don't think I knew how strenous this run was until after it was over. By the time I finished and met up with Lindsey, I was totally beat and could barely walk straight. She gave me her sunbathing towel she was using, and I wiped the sweat off my face. I was sweating so bad, it got into my eyes and burned most the night.  We walked back to the station, and I had to rinse my face off with cold water, drink a bottle of cold water, then take an ice-cold bottle home with me.  I was drained from the run and couldn't do much the rest of the night. Lindsey massaged my legs pretty good, and they really hurt, since I'm trying to strengthen them for those downhill runs.  I'm so glad I'm running this marathon in Alaska where the high temp may get to 65°. I don't care about the rain or wind...just no heat. It really throws your body out of place. I can't believe I managed to run a 10:00/mile despite the heat!

THOUGHTS: Between interval training and running down those hills in the park, I'd say the weekdays are becoming the toughest part of training. I look forward to the long runs on Saturday so I can just relax!
