Hottest Training Day So Far
This was the hottest training day so far.  High temp was 96° with a heat index of 100°+ around 4:00pm today.  I was really kicking myself for not getting up early and running before work. There was no way I was going to run after work today, so I came home and worked on my donation flyer to give to my colleagues at FOX 2. It was around 8:00pm before I thought it was "cool" enough to run...at 93°.

The Run
Drivers already had their headlights on when I started running, so I knew it would get dark fast.  This was the first time I've ran in Forest Park at night. It didn't look like too many people were out running tonight (gee I wonder why). I started my run working on my interval training (5 minutes fast, one minute walk), but by the time the 4th mile started, I thought I was overdoing it, so I just ran a slower steady pace. For the first couple miles, I had a warm breeze kicking up, which didn't really cool me off. I brought a 16-oz water bottle with me, and minute-by-minute, I could feel it getting warmer and warmer.  After about 20 minutes in my hand, it was as hot as the weather. I only drank about half of it.  The other half I used to splash my face and slosh out the bug I caught during the last mile. Mmmm.  There were a couple times when I felt my body temperature shoot up, but I just took a drink and slowed down a bit. For the most part, I felt strong...I just didn't want to overdo it on the last mile.

THOUGHTS: Even though my mind wanted to push myself, I listened to my body and took it easy when it asked for it. This was the hottest day so far in training, and there was no way I could predict how I was going to feel.
