Goodbye to Concrete
No more running at Francis Park. It beat me up. I can't do it anymore. The surface is too rough, and the asphalt sidestreets lean too much to one side (for water drainage off the road), and it puts one leg under more pressure. I'm getting major injuries from it. So, today I mapped out 4 miles as best I could for Forest Park, using this map (running/bike trail is outlined in red and goes all the way around the park), but it looks really confusing on paper, so I'll just wing it when I get there. I'm looking forward to training there. Plus, there's so much activity going on! Today, I wish I would have brought my camera to take pics of the trip around the park...the Planetarium was cool, and there was an outside concert at the History Museum. It's a great place to run!
The Run
I walked for a couple miles trying to find a mile marker somewhere on the trail, but after a mile went by, I didn't know what to do. I guess I could have ran my average 10:30/mile and quit around 42:00. Just when I was about to take off, I saw the words, "3 MILE" painted on the surface. So I went from there. I would end up at the marker 4 miles later, which put me right in front of the History Museum. The run was so smooth and pain free, compared to yesterdays agonizing 3 miles. In fact, the run was so nice, my battery crapped out on me during Mile 2, and I didn't care. I'm planning on bringing my running gear to work from now on, then changing after work and going straight to Forest Park, since FOX 2 is right across the street. NICE! CONVENIENT! IT'S MEANT TO BE! YEY!
Scoop on Massage
I was chatting with my friend Sean White during lunch today, and he told me that chiropractors are covered in our insurance plan. And I know a chiropractor's office that also does sports massage! It's the same place my girlfriend Lindsey goes to, and she has the same insurance company as I have. So, I'll have to schedule an appointment in the next week. The last sports massage I had was back in March 2004 when we went to Seattle to visit my friends Michelle Dibble (former Y98FM morning show personality) and Howard Kaylan (of the '60s group "The Turtles"). The massage therapist told me I was really out of alignment, and that I should have my body realigned often, especially since I'm running. So, I REALLY need to do that. The long runs are just around the corner!
Advice from my Idol, Greg (Mr. 10th place overall in St. Louis Marathon)
Greg told me today that he's now training for a duathalon. He's more insane than me! But he runs Forest Park to train and enjoys it. I told him about my extreme pain yesterday, and he said that usually two days after a long run is pretty painful. So that combined with pounding on a concrete surface did me in. He also told me he "hit the wall" during the St. Louis Marathon at Mile 19.
You've Got Mail!
I received another round of sponsors today, including one from someone I don't even know! That's amazing! Martha Klotz is a neighbor of one of my cousins and decided to sponsor me. How cool! A special shout out to Martha! You have no idea how good that feels!
