May 5, 2005, 6:30pm: Sunny Weather = Faster Run

GOAL:  3 miles
LOCATION:  Forest Park, St. Louis, Missouri
CONDITIONS: 72° and beautiful!
RESULTS: 3 miles
TIME: 27:57
PACE: 9:19/mile
TOTAL TRAINING MILES TO DATE (walking & running): 97 miles

Forest Park, Confirmed.
I brought my gym bag, changed after work, left my car on the FOX 2 parking lot and walked right over to Forest Park.  That is my new routine. It was great! I don't mind going around 6 miles when I'm only running 3, because I get a good mile of walking before, and two miles of walking after...plus the walk back to the station.

The Run
I'd call 9:19/mile the best pace so far in training...by a LONG SHOT!  My best up until today was 9:59/mile on April 18th, and yesterday's was 10:28/mile...a gain of over a minute a mile overnight! NICE! Yeah, I like Forest Park. I think the path was mostly downhill, but STILL, smooth sailing on this much warmer day. I felt dehydrated midway through the run, but I didn't have any water, and it wasn't critical enough for me to stop at the fountain. I didn't want to stop my killer pace! I can go from the FOX 2 parking lot, around the park and back to the parking lot in about an hour 20 minutes.  I'm good for that.

Nice Asics!
I talked with John Pertzborn as he was heading out the door to run, and he and I bought the same Asics shoes! He said he bought his pair a few weeks before the Boston Marathon, and he's using them for the next run.  He said I would definitely know when it's time to change the shoes. The store I bought them at said I'd get about 400 running miles out of them. So far, I've accumulated 97 miles!  Wow! That's like running to Carbondale, Illinois!

THOUGHTS: I've finally got my training system down. Looking forward to many runs in Forest Park, especially the first downpour! (knock, knock) So far, all my runs have been dry or misty
