I've Got The Gear
I brought the water belt today. Two of the bottles were for water, and the other two were for Gatorade's Propel. I also packed the GU sample that Fleet Feet Sports gave us during the kick-off party last month. I was ready to take on the run today.
The Run
The run itself was quite relaxing. I got into a zone during Mile 3 to where I didn't even notice I was running. The weather was perfect, and I was feeling energetic. Having the water bottles right there next to me locked on my belt was awesome. I could swig it down whenever I wanted to, and it was easy getting used to having the belt on. I went through 2 1/2 of the 4 bottles. I hit the GU for the first time on Mile 5, and the initial shock of sweet chocolate paste boosted me. Then about 15 minutes later I really felt it kick in my system. I think I ate it a little too late in the run, though. I talked with Chris (who's also running the marathon), and he said he took his about 3 miles into the run. I feel pretty good about the pace. I didn't rush at all, and went at my most comfortable speed.
Thinking about running a Half-Marathon in June to prepare for Alaska
I visited marathonguide.com, and noticed there was a marathon in Maryville, Missouri on June 11. That day during my training, I'm supposed to run 14 miles, but I'm thinking of running the half-marathon in Maryville (13.1 miles) instead, just to get an idea of how the water stations work, the atmosphere, and knowing what to expect when I get to Alaska. I talked to Coach Rich about it, and he's definitely encouraging me to do it. It's only $25 to register, so it'll cost more in gas to get there, plus a hotel night (here we go Priceline!). I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do it. I'll head out after work on Friday, run Saturday morning, rest, then come home. Here's more info on that marathon: chambercountryclassic.com

May 7: Amphipod Water Belt. It holds 32 ounces of fluids in 4 bottles. Bottles can be turned 90°, which is good for me, so my elbows don't hit the bottles. The bottles just snap on and off. I also bought an additional pouch: one for the MP3 player, and one to store my packs of GU.
