The Run
Since the weather was cooler than usual, I decided not to go with the water belt. I had on some new running gear I bought over the weekend, which fit me much better. I had a good start from the beginning, and didn't let myself let up at all. When my side was starting to hurt a little bit, I just slowed down a little bit and breathed heavy, and it went away. I kept my pace up the hills in Forest Park, and it really paid off on the slow downhill run along Skinker Rd. I finished the 3.25-mile run with a 8:37/mile pace! WOW! I'm supposed to run only 3 miles, but 3.25 miles is the exact distance from where Hampton Ave meets Forest Park (next to FOX 2) and the History Museum. It's a good way to measure the distance until they put official mile markers on the track. I couldn't believe I beat my all-time pace of 8:44/mile. I ran that back when I weight 197 pounds and was running 5 miles everyday. I can't wait to see how fast I'll be running when I get back to that weight!
A Familiar Face at the Park...finally!
In all the time I've been training, I have yet to run into anyone I knew. Well, that awful streak ended today when I saw Queen Isis and Blu Bolden. I had just finished my 3.25-mile run, and was finishing my walk around the park when I saw them. I turned around and walked back the other way so I could chat. I became friends with them when they worked at Q95.5, but now Isis works at 100.3 The Beat, and Blu does promotions for rap singer Nelly. We had a good time catching up on life. They're walking the park so they can fit in their tight jeans again, and they were supportive of my efforts to finish my first marathon.
| THOUGHTS: |
I was strong today, and beat a goal I never thought could be possible, especially this early in training. 8:37/mile is the new record to beat. But I will try to beat it only when my body is ready for it. If my body doesn't want to run fast, I won't. |
