Pace is Slower Than I Thought:
Since the mileage has been marked at Forest Park and it's actually about a half-mile shorter than I thought, my pace calculations are off. So, today being in Creve Coeur Park, I was able to get a better idea of my pace, and it's slower than I expected. But this gives me a challenge to get it to about 10:00/mile on average. To finish the marathon in 4 hours though, my pace would have to be 9:09/mile. To finish the marathon in 4.5 hours, pace would be 10:18/mile, and in 5 hours, 11:27/mile.
The Run
The 9.5-miler was a run completely around the park (5.5 miles), and then another run around the park, but cutting through the middle where the trail runs parallel to the big bridge that runs through the middle of it (4 miles). It was a beatiful day, slightly cooler and breezy. I took my time during the run, but didn't stop running. I wasn't planning on running non-stop, but it felt good at the time. I didn't even feel thirsty until the Mile 5, then I downed some water and a GU. It heated up pretty quickly once the sun got further up in the sky. I wasn't worn out afterwards, but after a nice bathroom break, I was pretty relaxed.
| THOUGHTS: |
Now is the time to pick up the pace. The distance is not a challenge to me for now, but increasing my pace is. I plan on getting my pace to a consistent 10:00/mile. Hopefully this will also help me lose a little more weight. I'm tired of carrying all this weight with me during the run! |
