I'm INSANE! I'm running a marathon!
Hey !*FIRST_NAME*!...I've gone off the deep end again. I'm going to run 26.2 miles in my first marathon. And I'm traveling to one of the farthest places in the U.S. to do it...Alaska...home of igloos and northern lights and really cold stuff. Have I lost my mind? Well, that's like asking me if I'm Irish...

I put together a website called project262.com (pronounced Project Twenty-Six Two) that will help me focus on training, let others know about my progress, and will help me raise $4,000 for the Arthritis Foundation! I'm part of the Joints in Motion Team. Personally, this is my chance to keep off the weight I've lost...this is my opportunity to see Alaska...and it's all in honor of my sister, Ellen, who has been living with Rheumatoid Arthritis for over 21 years.

I'll be tracking the entire 20 weeks of training on my website, all the way to marathon day.  The marathon is on August 21st, but with your support, I hope to reach my goal by May 23rd.

!*FIRST_NAME*!, will you help by sponsoring me?
I hope you can donate today. $4,000 is a lot of money to raise. I must raise half that amount by May 23rd, so the Arthritis Foundation can make all travel arrangements on time. The Arthritis Foundation devotes more than $11 million annually to research and is leading the way to more successful treatments. In fact, a third of all funds raised will directly support research efforts.

Donate Online: Any amount is greatly appreciated, even if it's $1.00. Secure online payments are preferred, but if you would like to mail a check, the address is on my website. All donations are tax-deductible.

Office Collection: One of the most effective ways is to get an office collection going. Ask around! Chances are you or someone you work with knows a person living with arthritis.  If there is someone you want to honor with your donation, let me know, and I'll add their names on my website. Find out if your company is a Matching Gift company, and if so, make sure you mail me the matching gift form.

Online Advertising: I have banner ad space on my home page that can be yours! I'll even design the ad! Be my biggest sponsor, please oh please!

There are so many different ways to support me in this quest to raise funds to fight arthritis.  Please visit project262.com.
About The Arthritis Foundation:
The facts about arthritis are alarming. Nearly 70 million Americans currently suffer from arthritis--that's one in three adults and nearly 300,000 children! New projections predict arthritis to be the epidemic of the future. By the year 2020, the number of people with arthritis will almost double, affecting major life activities, such as working, going to school, enjoying leisure activities or keeping house. Arthritis research can make a difference. In addition to the foundation devoting $11 million for research, they provide programs that help people with arthritis and their families better understand and cope with their disease. Visit arthritis.org for more info on arthritis.
Thank you !*FIRST_NAME*! in advance for helping the Arthritis Foundation and for supporting me in my quest to finish my first marathon. Your name will be listed on my website as a sponsor once I receive your donation, so please check project262.com in a few days!

ELLEN O'BRIEN
I'm running this marathon for my sister, Ellen. Many days she comes home from work with severe back pain and stiff hands. She was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis when she was only 25 years old. That was 21 years ago.  By finishing this marathon, I will cross that line knowing that $4,000 is being used to benefit her...money that can research pain relieving medications to prevent, control and cure arthritis.
